Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity Province IX Meeting
Host Chapter: Delta Tau Las Vegas/Henderson, Nevada March 3-4, 2006

Province IX thanks the Delta Tau brothers for all the hard work they have done to organize this Province meeting. Special thanks to Delta Tau's assembly coordinators, Emily Maier and Jeff Mandel, and their committee (Lisa Asato, Dave Coffman, Sergio Fernandez, Michelle Gregory, Jodi Levell, Susan Lim, Nicole Maier, Alison Marli, Natalie Neilson, Melissa Pease, Bethanie Peterson). Brothers arrived into town with the excitement and hype that only Las Vegas brings. Eager to kick off the weekend, brothers checked into the Sunset Station Hotel & Casino, east of the McCarran International Airport and "The Strip." The hotel possessed a Spanish flair and boasted a "unique entertainment experience." According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal Readers Poll, Sunset Station Hotel was voted "Best Locals' Hotel and Casino" five years in a row and received "Best Paying Slots" and "Best Video Poker" awards this past year.
Brothers reunited Friday evening at the Hofbrauhaus Las Vegas, on Paradise Road across from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, where "Every Day's Oktoberfest." Hofbrauhaus is an exact reproduction of Hofbrauhaus Munchen and serves beer that is brewed in Munich, using the original recipes handed down by Wilhelm V (Duke of Bavaria). It has two settings: the Beer Hall (Schwemme) and the Beer Garden (Biergarten). The Beer Hall is the "historical heart," with a traditional beer hall design and live music, that seats over 350 people. The Beer Garden is a duplicate of the Munich garden and features patio dining and a water fountain. Brothers gathered in the Beer Garden and enjoyed the food and beverages. Before embarking on a "tour" of The Strip, brothers clapped in rhythm and sang "Happy Birthday" with the staff.
Province IX got down to business Saturday morning at the University of Southern Nevada. This was not before brothers were treated to a relaxing ride to the university (courtesy of the "Delta Tau Shuttle") and breakfast (sponsored by Albertsons) in the Student Commons. Upon registering, brothers received a gift package that included Utterly Smooth Lotion, pens, a souvenir poker chip, and a special keychain.
Supervisor Cameron "Radar" Van Dyke and Derrick Egi performed the opening ritual. In the absence of Chaplain Jon Nakao, Delta Sigma's Chaplain, Natalie Reed, performed the invocation. Delta Tau regent, Jeff Mandel welcomed all the brothers and thanked everyone for attending. Letters of communication from Dave Maszkiewicz (Grand Regent), Becky Fahrenbruch (Grand Counselor), Andy Frasco (Grand Ritualist) and Kali Jernigan (Collegiate Member at Large) were presented to the brothers. Each brother wished Province IX well and sent their best for a successful assembly. Brother Dave thanked brothers for a very successful G.C.C. (3rd largest attendance) and challenged each chapter/brother to take a look at what they can do to make Kappa Psi better. He also invited brothers to visit the Kappa Psi booth and reception at the APhA Convention in San Francisco. Brother Becky reminded chapters to update/submit their ordinances. Brother Andy addressed the confusion over the request for chapters to return the newly released ritual books.
Brother Derrick kept things moving as officers presented their reports. And, after a short break, delegates presented their chapter reports. Following the reports was a risk management workshop. Brother Brett Rathi presented the "9 Myths of Hazing."
After the presentation, brothers returned to the Student Commons for lunch. Walgreens sponsored a lunch from Jason's Deli. Brothers were treated to a sandwich, chips, cookies and a soft drink.
The meeting resumed after a relaxing lunch. Committee chairs thanked their committees and presented their reports. This was followed by elections for our 2006-2007 Province Officers. A special thank you goes to the outgoing officers. And congratulations to our 2006-2007 Officers: Kristl Tom, Satrap; Ethan Anderson, Vice Satrap; Jim Connor, Secretary/Treasurer; Aaron Nelson, Chaplain; Jessi Wilts, Historian. These brothers were installed into office by Immediate Past Satrap Derrick Egi. The afternoon concluded with the closing ritual and adjournment by Satrap Kristl Tom.
The closing banquet was held at the Grand Lux Cafe in the Venetian Hotel. What better way to celebrate the progress and success of Province IX, than to dine in the elegant architecture and decor of a classic Venetian cafe?
Awards were presented at the banquet to the following: Delta Sigma (Travelers Award), Beta Gamma (Lapiz Taquitos Award), and Delta Phi (Fellow-hood & Brother-ship Award). Emily Maier was presented a Kappa Psi Recognition Pin for her outstanding job coordinating the assembly.
The meeting was a huge success. Brothers are now looking forward to reunite in Tucson, Arizona for the next Province IX assembly.
