Province IX thanks the Beta Gamma brothers for all the hard work they have done to organize this Province meeting. Special thanks to Beta Gamma's assembly coordinator, Stephanie Villanueva, Beta Gamma's regent, Ryan Martelino, and their committee (Shannon Biglete, Alycia Clark, Pearl Nyi, Carly Paoli, Sherry Pinwatana). Brothers arrived into San Francisco Friday afternoon and were greeted by groups of Beta Gamma brothers who assisted brothers find their way to the Ramada Downtown Plaza. In addition to directing brothers to the hotel, the Beta Gamma brothers presented small welcoming gifts with info on transportation to the various weekend activities. Clear blue skies allowed brothers to tour the city and explore the different means of transportation.
After an enjoyable afternoon of exploring, brothers gathered at Yancy's bar for a social hour. Beta Gamma brothers provided pizza and welcomed the brothers of Province IX. After a few hours, the festivities were moved to the Beta Gamma house. Brothers were treated to beverages and the opportunity to participate in either flip cup or Texas Hold'em Poker. At the end of the night Gamma Upsilon was named the flip cup champions and Brett Rathi won the Texas Hold'em Poker game. Special thanks to Brett, as he donated all of his winnings to the province.
Province IX finally got down to business Saturday morning at the University of California - San Francisco. It was a very successful meeting as much was discussed and new officers were elected. We were honored to have Province V Vice-Supervisor Elizabeth Poole in attendance.
Supervisor Cameron "Radar" Van Dyke and Satrap Kristl Tom performed the opening ritual. Then, Chaplain Aaron Nelson gave the invocation.
Beta Gamma regent, Ryan Martelino welcomed all the brothers and thanked everyone for attending. Letters of communication from Grand Counselor Becky Fahrenbruch and Grand Ritualist Andy Frasco was read by Supervisor Radar.
Next, the province officers presented their reports. And, after a short break, delegates presented their chapter reports.
Following the reports, committee chairs gave a brief overview of what they were working on and invited brothers to participate during lunch.
The morning session ended with a wedding gift presentation to Brett and Bonita Rathi.
With the morning session finishing an hour early, committees met while Supervisor hosted a workshop about staying active in Kappa Psi. Although it was targeted at the new initiates attending the assembly, all were invited. They discussed the ritual and things to do to stay involved.
At noon, lunch arrived and brothers enjoyed food from L & L Hawaiian Barbeque.
The afternoon session started with a quick overview of the chapter progress report form. Immediately following that was a presentation of general info about the upcoming GCC in Boston. And, upon request, the highlight video created after the last GCC was shown. Then, visiting brother Liz Poole showcased a few squares from Kappa Psi's Hearts & Crafts quilt.
Business continued as committee chairs presented their reports and thanked those who participated.
Following committee reports were nominations for the afternoon's officer elections. After a short break, candidates were given a few minutes to present platform speeches and elections were held. Thanks to the outgoing officers for the hard work this last year. And welcome to the new officers: Stephanie Villanueva (Satrap), Robert Mancini (Vice Satrap), Carly Paoli (Secretary/Treasurer), Eugene Lee (Chaplain), and Elizabeth Sarles (Historian), Raj Gandhi (GCC Delegate), and Stephanie Davis (GCC Alternate Delegate).
The officers were then installed by retiring satrap, Kristl Tom. Then incoming satrap, Stephanie Villanueva closed the meeting.
Before heading their separate ways, brothers gathered outside for a group photo.
Brothers had a few hours to relax before the banquet at the Argonaut Hotel. Brothers were treated to a reception (including live music by Third Leg) before dinner. After the first course, retired historian Jessi Wilts presented the following awards: Fellow-ship & Brother-hood Award to Gamma Rho, Travelers Award to Gamma Nu, and Lapiz Taquitos Award to Beta Gamma. Immediate Past Satrap Kristl Tom then presented Stephanie Villanueva and Ryan Martelino with Kappa Psi's Recognition Pins for their outstanding work planning and coordinating the assembly. Kristl kept things going as she played a short tribute video and presented a plaque to Supervisor Cameron "Radar" Van Dyke for his leadership and guidance as supervisor. After Radar thanked the province, Kristl wrapped things up with a highlight video of the weekend. Special thanks to those who shared photos and helped make the video possible (Doug Asato, Sanaz Farhadian, Sherry Pinwatana, Elizabeth Sarles, Stephanie Villanueva, and Jessi Wilts)
Brothers then enjoyed a salmon and filet minon dinner with a tiramisu dessert. The banquet ended with Beta Gamma's regent, Ryan Martelino, presenting flowers to Immediate Past Satrap Kristl Tom and Assembly Coordinator (and Satrap) Stephanie Villanueva for all the work they put into planning the assembly.
After the banquet brothers traveled to Suede Night Club.
The meeting was a huge success. Brothers are now looking forward to reuniting in Boston, MA for the 53rd Grand Council Convention.
