Province IX met at the UCSD Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SSPPS) in La Jolla, California. The meeting was hosted by the Delta Phi Chapter and the Province Coordinators were Linda Ngo and Sanaz Farhadian. The meeting was attended by 68 brothers, making it the largest attended Province IX assembly on record. All 9 chapters were represented by two delegates. The province would like to commend the Delta Phi brothers on all the hard work they have done to organize this Province meeting. And the brothers would like to extend a special thanks and appreciation to the Province IX Executive Committee. Brothers arrived into San Diego and were welcomed with open arms. Brothers checked into the Radisson Hotel in La Jolla. The Radisson Hotel La Jolla offers a first class resort atmosphere, 5 minutes away from spectacular beaches. The hotel features fresh seafood and continental delicacies at Humphrey's La Jolla Grill and a koi fishpond with waterfall. New supervisor, Cameron "Radar" Van Dyke met the Province IX executive committee before dinner. Last minute arrangements and issues were discussed and addressed. Also, the agenda was reviewed to ensure the assembly would run smoothly. One of the many highlights during the gathering was Brother Ali's overview of the situation across the street from his apartment (police and SWAT dealing with a possible homicide and suicide). Brothers separated into groups for dinner as many brothers had family and friends in the area. After dinner, the province brothers reunited at the Pacific Beach Bar and Grill, located two blocks from Crystal Pier in beautiful Pacific Beach. Brothers celebrated the reunion on the largest patio in San Diego by sharing drinks and dancing until 2am. After a fun-filled reunion the night before, brothers were treated to breakfast prior to the assembly. Delta Phi provided bagels, water and lots of coffee. Registration on Saturday started at 7:30am with each brother receiving a Province IX visor. The assembly started a little after 8am. Satrap Derrick Egi put the province gavel's strength to the test as he called the assembly to order. Then, new supervisor, Cameron "Radar" Van Dyke and Derrick Egi performed the opening ritual. Brothers stood and held hands as Chaplain Jon Nakao performed the invocation. Roll call and the seating of the delegates was especially exciting as we had 100% attendance for the first time in province history (as far back as anyone remembered). Delta Phi regent, Jethmark Olaes welcomed all the brothers and thanked everyone for attending. Claudio Faria was introduced and recognized as the Grand Historian. Letters of communication from Dave Maszkiewicz (Grand Regent) and Andy Frasco (Grand Ritualist) were presented to the brothers. Both brothers wished Province IX well and sent their best for a successful assembly. Brother Dave reminded brothers of the Hurricane Katrina/Rita Relief committee (for more info, visit http://kappa-psi.org) and thanked brothers for a very successful G.C.C. Brother Andy addressed the confusion over the request for chapters to return the newly released ritual books. The assembly moved right along as the officers presented their reports. And, after a short break, chapter delegates presented their chapter reports. Brothers were treated to lunch, as Delta Phi provided sandwiches, chips, and dessert. After lunch, brothers were entertained by our GCC Delegates, Chris Trujillo and Jessi Wilts, as they displayed two presentations. For those who could not attend GCC, they showed the Province IX Report again. Then, they showed a 12-minute slideshow called "Province IX in Pittsburgh." Then, before returning to business, we took a Province IX group photo. Ahead of schedule, we progressed to the committee reports. Each committee chair thanked committee members and presented a report. The legislative committee presented a few updates regarding the by-laws. Not many changes were made. The auditing committee reported that all chapters paid their dues. The province planning committee set a tentative date for the next assembly (Mar 3-4, 2006). The awards committee presented two new award proposals and reminded brothers of the awards to be presented at the dinner banquet. The philanthropic committee expressed interest in increasing communication between chapters regarding the province-wide philanthropic project. A form for chapters to report their philanthropic activities/projects is being developed and will be made available through Yahoo Groups. The committee also proposed donating the leftover food from lunch. The resolution committee presented the new resolutions for the next year. The assembly ended in a cheer as we adjourned a couple hours early, allowing for a free afternoon. During our free afternoon brothers gathered at the Radisson for a brotherly game of Texas Hold'em Poker. Then brothers prepared for the dinner and banquet. The dinner and awards presentation was held at the La Jolla Brewery & Restaurant. The Delta Phi brothers did an outstanding job as the entire restaurant was reserved and open only to Kappa Psi brothers. The private party started with appetizers and drinks around 7:30pm. Dinner was provided buffet style around 8pm. Brothers enjoyed a barrage of food. During dinner, a 5-minute slideshow of the weekend's activities was presented. Also, Satrap Derrick Egi presented the awards to the recipients. Gamma Nu received the Travelers Award for bringing the most brothers. Delta Sigma was presented the Lapiz Taquitos Award for the best chapter report. Gamma Upsilon was presented the "Fellow-hood & Brother-ship" Award for the most improved attendance. Beta Gamma and Delta Sigma were presented the Publishers Award for putting together exemplary publications the last few months. And, Linda Ngo and Sanaz Farhadian were presented Kappa Psi Recognition Pins for their time and hard work in coordinating the assembly. The night ended with dancing to music provided by a DJ recruited by Delta Phi. This meeting was very successful. Aside from the usual business, we had a lot to celebrate: 100% submission of the 2005 chapter progress reports, 100% representation at the 52nd G.C.C., 100% representation in The MASK (2005 summer and fall issues), and 100% attendance at our province interim assembly. We cannot wait to meet again in Las Vegas in March to celebrate our continued growth and follow up on our new goals and challenges set by our officers and brothers.
