Province
IX
When Kappa Psi was first organized, there were only 5
provinces. After the separation of the fraternity in 1924, the provinces
were as follows: North Atlantic Province, South Atlantic Province,
Middle Atlantic Province, Middle West Province, and Pacific
Province.
In
1955, the Executive Committee approved a province organization
that consisted of 10 provinces, established as follows:
I
- Albany, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island
II
- New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania
III - District
of Columbia, N. Carolina, S. Carolina, Virginia, West
Virginia
IV
- Alabama, Florida, Georgia
V
- Buffalo, Michigan, Ohio
VI
- Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin
VII
- Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee
VIII
- Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota
IX
- Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas
X
- California, Montana, Oregon, Washington
Between
1956 and 1963, the addition of active chapters lead to the
activation of Province XI, which resulted in the
reorganization of the provinces. Province IX consisted
of Arizona and New Mexico, and Province XI included all
California chapters.
In
1965, the Grand Council approved the consolidation of
Provinces IX and XI. The new group was designated
Province IX and included Beta
Gamma, Gamma Nu, Gamma Rho, Gamma Upsilon, Arizona Grad,
Los Angeles Grad (dormant), Pacific Grad and San Francisco Grad (dormant).
Since
then, Province IX has added a new state (Nevada) and 5 new
chapters (Delta Sigma, Delta Tau, Delta Phi, Epsilon Gamma, and Epsilon
Iota). And in the summer of 2007, both Los Angeles
Grad and San Francisco Grad were reactivated.
