Behind the Award
The Lapiz Taquitos Legend
Don't try to translate this
one!! To this day brothers are baffled as to the
meaning of "Lapiz
Taquitos."
At around 11pm on a
Saturday evening in October 2004, brothers from
across the province
gathered at the Gamma Nu house in Stockton,
California. The brothers
had much to celebrate: the reunion of Province
IX, one year since the
"expansion" of Province IX, a successful inaugural
interim assembly, a visit
from Grand Ritualist Becky Fahrenbruch, the
best dinner banquet in
province history, ... and a brother's birthday!!
Delta Sigma brother, Jessi
Wilts, will never forget the birthday she
spent in Stockton. As
expected, birthday celebrations started long
before the festivities at
the Gamma Nu house. But, who knew it would
ultimately result in a
legend?!
After the second wave of
brothers departed for the night, Gamma Nu
Regent Mark Walberg took it upon
himself to ensure Jessi's bottomless
cups of "nutrition"
remained full. After providing refills, Mark proceeded
to inquire about a necklace
Jessi was wearing. Jessi quickly responded,
"Lapiz Taquitos!"
From that moment on, it seemed as though Jessi's entire
vocabulary comprised of
only two words... because no matter what any
brother asked or said the
rest of the night,
Jessi's response remained the
same: "Lapiz
Taquitos!"
By assembly's end, "Lapiz
Taquitos" was designated Province IX's
unifying phrase.

"Fellow-hood & Brother-ship" Tale
This phrase was established
in March 2004, at the Province IX assembly
following the 51st GCC and
chartering of the Delta Phi Chapter.
During the platform
speeches, Gamma Nu brother, Sheldon Kong,
inadvertently confused a
couple of suffixes. The newly coined phrase caught
on quickly as brothers
inserted it into their own speeches and presentations.
