Province IX Meeting - Officer Reports

Albuquerque, New Mexico

March 5-6, 2005

Supervisor Craig Johnston

• Commended all Brothers in attendance

• Reviewed role as Supervisor

• Stressed the importance of Province Meetings

• Kappa Psi presence across the nation (66,000 Brothers)

• Revisited Kappa Psi dominance/leadership in pharmacy organizations

  • 60% of the Deans in the U.S. are KY Brothers (40% made up of other 5 fraternities)

  • 75% of APhA Presidents (25% made up of other 5 fraternities or are not affiliated)

  • 65% of the Presidents of all the other pharmacy organizations have been KY Brothers

• Encouraged our Brothers to continue the leadership tradition of Kappa Psi

• Shared brotherhood experiences ("All For One, One For All") - Unique bond (Brotherhood)

• "If satisfied with where chapter is, need to re-evaluate/analyze" - Try something new

• Suggested tying service projects to social events

• Reminder: If each Province IX Chapter submits progress report, $200 to assist G.C.C. delegate

• Kappa Psi is for life!!!!  (Recognized Grad Chapters - Pacific Grad, Arizona Grad)

• John Murphy (Gamma Upsilon GCD) will be presented Richard A. Bliss Award at APhA Mtg

• Promoted/Encouraged attendance at G.C.C. - Goal is to have each Chapter represented at G.C.C.

• Promoted/Encouraged chapters to put an ad in G.C.C. booklet/program

Satrap Brett Rathi

• Announced Golf Tournament and Poker Tournament

• Province IX to be unified in Pittsburgh for G.C.C.  (Start fundraising now!)

• Spring packet now available online

• Beta Chi -- 75th Anniversary -- Province VIII Assembly

• Goals for 2005-2006

  • 100% Chapter Progress Reports

  • 100% chapter representation at G.C.C.

  • Enhance communication between chapters

  • 100% chapters present at Fall Assembly

  • Start Province IX Scholarship Committee / Fund

Vice-Satrap Sheldon Kong

• Reviewed role as Vice Satrap

• Discussed role for assisting host chapter plan the Province Meeting

Secretary/Treasurer Ali Rezaei (Read by Satrap Brett Rathi)

• All chapters current with dues

• Province balance:  over $1,500

Chaplain Jon Nakao

• Reviewed responsibilities of Chaplain

Historian Kristl Tom

• Applauded Gamma Rho and Province IX Executive Committee

• Continued to submit articles to The MASK on behalf of province

• Contacted/Reminded chapters few weeks prior to MASK deadlines

  • Spring 2004 issue - 5 articles from Province IX

  • Summer 2004 - 6 articles

  • Fall 2004 - 5 articles

  • 2003 Avg.: 3 articles/issue

  • Pacific Grad (Derrick Egi) - in past 3 yrs, only missed 1 deadline

• Released new Province IX Website

  • Announcements on homepage

  • Page dedicated to each chapter

• New Province IX Yahoo Groups  (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/kappapsi9/)

• Thanked brothers for opportunity and privilege to serve province

Immediate Past Satrap Bonita Shin

• Described role as Immediate Past Satrap - helps to provide continuity from the past to the present

• Assisted Satrap make sound decisions for the Province and provided different outlooks or results to the best of my ability
